Guns in Parks

Senator Diane Feinstein, among others, is upset at the new federal rule effective in January that will allow those who hold permits to carry concealed weapons to carry those concealed in national parks and wildlife refuges. She says the new rule "will make our national parks more dangerous and will upset the delicate balance that exists between park visitors and wildlife."

Hunh? Does she think that gun toters will be taking potshots out their car windows at bison and bear?

The only change is invisible. The only guns affected by the change in policy are legally carried concealed guns. Concealed means you can't see them. You don't know they are there.

In most states now, many thousands of citizens carry concealed weapons every day, shopping, working, driving, walking, and eating in restaurants. Each of us comes in contact with armed citizens without realizing it. The only people harmed by this are those who make the mistake of criminally assaulting said citizens.

So go ahead and enjoy your next visit to Yellowstone or Grand Canyon, Senator. Some of those other tourists may be armed, or maybe not. You and the wildlife won't be able to tell the difference.

And if you can't tell the difference, what's the difference?
