I write less on www.ericrush.com than I did here, so I'll start paying attention to this again. Working on a new book: It's Too Bad I'll Never Build Another House Because Next Time I'd Know What I Was Doing

Supporting Obama

I just joined Barack Obama's campaign for president. The article "Why Obama Matters" by Andrew Sullivan in The Atlantic, Dec 07, persuaded me to support him in spite of my primary objection: Obama's flawed view of The Second Amendment.

It will take decades for this nation to repair the damage the Bush administration his inflicted on our moral and political standing in the world. Sullivan's arguments for why Obama is the best candidate to begin this process are convincing.

As for The Second Amendment, the courts are beginning to define it in terms of original intent. Soon we will know if the Supreme Court will take on D.C. vs Heller. If it does, and if the Supreme Court affirms the lower court's opinion that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right, what any president thinks of it will be at least muted and at most irrelevant.

So please take a moment to learn more about Barack Obama. There's a place in his campaign for all of us.

Do you REALLY want a President who, given any opportunity to do so, would take away tools of self-defense from upstanding citizens? someone who so distrusts citizens that he would rather criminals and enemies have the upper hand?

We don't know how Heller will turn out yet. We do know what Obama will do, given the opportunity (which politicians are very good at finding). Dunno about you, but I don't trust a prez who doesn't trust me with a plainly enumerated Constitutional right.

To ctdonath,

George Bush was elected because thousands of us held our noses and voted for him because the Democratic candidate favored gun control and did not understand what the 2nd Amendment means.

All things considered, I'd rather have a good president who favors gun control than another disaster like that ignorant Bush kid.

No president is going to take away my guns, but the wrong president, as we are seeing now, can do untold damage to our country.

This time, I'm voting what's best for my country first. I'll worry about the details later.

Hi Eric
Stumbled across your blog when I googled "broken pelvis" (I fell down some stairs!. Just want to comment that it is interesting to read your views. Here in NZ we get a distorted and somemtimes frightening picture of the US and its citizens from the world news, American TV, etc etc -- it is reassuring to know that "ordinary" Americans are quite sane! BTW, did you know that "Eric Rush" is the name of a much admired NZ rugby player - an All Black. At first I thought that this was his blog. I will pop back from time to time - I enjoyed reading your blog, isn't it time you posted some more? Regards from NZ.

Dear Judith,

We get a distorted and frightening picture of ourselves from domestic news outlets, too.

I learned of your rugby Eric Rush from Google. I keep hoping he'll offer to buy www.ericrush.com from me, heh heh.
